Obsession

I've admitted to myself now that I have a crazy obsession for making things. Yesterday I made another sock person for Lauren, a bag for my laundry and then started cutting the fabric for my quilt (WHICH ARRIVED YESTERDAY!!!)

So the sock person:

What a cutie! Aaand my new laundry bag (of all things, in coming to uni I neglected to get a laundry bag. I can't cope with the mountains of clothing anymore and I needed a bag.)

The strap was the only tricky fiddly bit, but it would have been easier if I'd ironed the material. So top tip: use an iron to flatten material before you sew with it.

Anyway onto my main point!!! My material arrived yesterday (with my new cutting board - I left the old one at home) and it is BEAUTIFUL. Look at this:

There are two squares missing - that's because I forgot to take a picture, and cut the first square and was cutting the second by the time I remembered I'd need a picture. So this is the material, still fat-quarter size, all folded up neatly so I could lay them out and decide on a pattern. This took 40 minutes of deliberation with Lizzie's help because I kept putting patches that were the same too close together!

Then of course it was time to start cutting my squares. I had a little bit of a backwards moment and cut the first one 26cm x 26cm, instead of 41cm x 41cm (cm added for the seam allowance). Good job I had some spare material because otherwise I might have just curled up and cried a bit. I also had a small issue with the rotary cutter and cut my finger. Stupid. Hence the plaster.

I am, essentially, a genius!

So, now I have FIVE of 25 squares cut. Given that each one takes about 10-15 minutes of careful cutting, this might take a while...

Good luck to me!
